  16. wound; in Los Angeles. The nasal cry ("The plane! The plane!")
  17. of his character, Tattoo, on ABC's escapist Fantasy Island made
  18. Villechaize a late-'70s pop-cultural footnote and punch line.
  19. Born in Paris, the 3-ft. 10-in. painter turned to acting after
  20. immigrating to New York City. The years since his Fantasy Island
  21. stardom were grim--legal troubles, medical problems and scant
  22. work. In accord with his wishes, there was no funeral; Villechaize
  23. had requested that a specialist in dwarfism examine his remains
  24. before he was cremated.
